School shootings, we want to go around it as much as we can, but yet its one of the biggest problems at the moment. We try our best to find a solution, yet it still comes back. Last month on February 14, there was a school shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, there was sadly 17 killed. Many of the victims were students ranging from ages 14-18 as well as a few teachers. In this time span there has been many more school shootings and also threats, including our home town, Grandview. For this day on March 14, both Grandview Middle School and Grandview High School went outside to the court yard for exactly 17 mins and for these 17 minutes, all students stayed silent for the 17 lives that were killed on February 14. After the shooting had happen on the 25th of February, 4 students from Grandview High School were arrested for threatening to shoot the school. When the students were arrested they told authorities it was a joke but police had also found a paper with a map of the school, outlined by classes with questions marks over them.
When hearing things like this happening it is honestly very upsetting as well as sad to hear. All these people pass away, each and everyone of these people did not deserve this to happen to them. At some point, we have to come to realization that it can always happen here, at our home town. At some point we all think why, why do people do this? Or, when will it stop? Honestly, we will never know when this will stop, the only thing that can help us right now is to just be aware of this and to have a little bit more of security in each schools. Some people will think “Nothing will ever happen here, its Grandview!” But you never know because the unexpected can happen. But like I said, it's good to be ready and also aware that anything can happen in any school, any city or any town.
