Out With The Old, In With The New

It’s safe to say that all of Grandview is buzzing with the excitement that a new school brings. We have already renovated our stadium and it is shining with fancy turf, now it’s time for the rest of the school. As we enter the lobby area, the wall next to the office has layout plans for the new school. Next to the three plans are the words, “The Road To Success Is Always Under Construction.” One of the pictures shows a model of what our entire school area will look like, fields and parking lots included, underneath this is a light layer that shows the outline of our school now. Hard to believe where we stand now, will soon be gone.

At the end of the 2017-2018 school year, we will be getting rid of part of the school! Yes, the DECA Apparel Store, Auto Shop, Metal Shop, Green House, and entire back area of the 300 Hall will be removed in preparation for an upgraded Grandview High School. This piece of school is being removed because the new building will be built in its very place. The construction workers plan to come at the end of the school year and tear it all down. They are also closing off the road near the softball field to general traffic and placing a fence around the construction area. These actions are estimated to happen around August 1st.

But where will the Auto Shop and DECA Apparel Store go? The Auto Shop is being moved to the Bus Garage and the Bus Garage will be moved to the Anderson Building, by Safeway. The Anderson Building is currently under construction to make it move in ready. Auto classes will be taught in block periods to eliminate some of the flaws due to extra travel time. The DECA Apparel store will continue to be housed in Grandview High School, though its exact location is still being decided.

For a short time, the “Old Grandview High School”, and the “New Grandview High School” will coexist, this is because other than the 300 Hall, these two don’t cross paths. This means that they can entirely construct the new high school while students are still learning in the current one. Once the new high school is completely constructed, they will begin to tear down the old high school.

The new school has many improved features to look forward to. To mention a few, there will be two floors, multiple parking lots and two gymnasiums. But sports related classes aren’t the only ones being upgraded, the music department will now have a band room and a seperate choir room. There will be a theater as well as a 2D Art Room and a 3D Art Room, how creative! Miss Casey excitedly reports that there will be tons of parking, and besides there being a set place for staff parking, parking spots will be open to all.

If all goes as planned, we can expect to see the new school completed by 2020.
