Strange Places Around The World

The Island of the Dolls

The island of the dolls located in Mexico by the Xochimilco canals is an island filled with torn apart broken dolls. The legend says a man named Don Julian Santana Barrera left his family because of love problems. Which soon went to this island to get away from that. One day he came across a young girl floating in a canal drowned and next to her a doll. A doll that he hung in a tree said to protect himself from the spirit of the little girl others say it was to pay respect or even protect the spirit of the little girl. The body of the Girl was never found many believe that it was merely a figment of his imagination.

From that day on dolls started to appear in the canal, which he continued to put up creating the island of the dolls “ la Isla de las Munecas”. One day around 2001 while his nephew Anastasio Velasco came to help him plant, his nephew was planting when he realized that his uncle hadn't come back, he later found him drowned in the very same spot said to have seen the little girl. Many people say that the little girl made him get in the water. Others say it was the spirits of the dolls themselves.

Aokigahara Forest

The Aokigahara forest near Mt.Fuji is known as the “Sea of Trees” for its vast amount of trees. It is also known as suicide forest. A forest in which people go to commit suicide there has been an increasing amount of deaths each year.

In the past in japan poor families would leave their elders or sick to die in this forest because they did not have enough money to support them. Due to the amount of trees it is very easy to get lost, many times when a person is undecided they bring a tent or a plastic string which they wrap around trees to find their way back. More than 100 people kill themselves each year. There are many signs trying to prevent suicide. When forest guardians find a dead body, they will take it to a special room designed for dead bodies. The guard will sleep in the same room with the body. If corpse is left alone in the room, it's spirit will move all night in the dormitories screaming and being deranged or at least that's what people say. A new horror movie was based on this forest “The Forest”.

Winchester Mystery Mansion

Sarah Winchester born to a wealthy family in her early twenties she married William Winchester whose father founded the company of Winchester Repeating Rifles, that killed many people in wars. They later had a child which then died from a strange disease only a month in a half later. When Williams dad died he gave the company to William. Which soon died from tuberculosis she then reached out to spiritualists and mediums to help understand the deaths of her daughter and husband.

One medium told Sarah that her family was being haunted by the spirits of those killed by the winchester rifle. Her family was cursed and the only way to break that curse was to move west and build a house and never stop building. She said that the good spirits would guide her and if she continued building she could live forever but if she stop the evil spirits would haunt Sarah forever. She followed the mediums advice and moved west to San Jose California. Where she built the house they estimated that 500-600 rooms were built but only 161 rooms were made due to her consistent remodeling. The strange thing about this mansion is the peculiar way it was built. It was built this way to confuse the evil spirits haunting Sarah. Walk ways are narrow, twisted turns, stairs that lead to ceiling, door to nowhere blocked by a wall or a drop to the floor below. In 1996 and earthquake that San Francisco earthquake which destroyed most of the building. Sarah soon later died and now the mansion is a star attraction many say that the spirits of Sarah and her workers still roam the house.
