Is Prom Worth All That Money?

As prom is this upcoming Saturday it makes some people, mostly girls, start worrying about things. Will their dress come in on time? Where are they going to eat? The most important question is, how much? Now some juniors and senior pay on their own because they have saved up or have a job but some have their parents pay. According to the guardian by Jana Kasperkevica, she says, “A recent survey from Visa showed that the average US family plans to spend about $919 on a prom-going teen, with parents covering as much as 73% of the costs.” Now if you were to do the math, that means your parents are spending $670.87. You may or may not be spending this much, but think about how much you are spending and how much your parents are spending. Me being a junior and being able to go, I don’t think prom is worth that much money. It’s for one night and although it is one of the most important nights in a high school student’s life, shouldn’t you be saving that money for college? Prom is special because you get to dress up and hang out with your classmates but there are cheaper ways to hang out with your classmates. Although juniors do get the chance of going to prom, they should wait til their senior year. As senior year being an excuse to spend money, they should still try to remain within a budget. So if you are going, then try not to blow so much money and if you’re not then you just saved lots of money.
