DECA heads to Bellevue for State


At the start of the month Grandview High School's’ DECA program headed to Bellevue, Washington for the State Career Development Conference also known as SCDC. As over 3,000 students attended the conference sixteen of those students are a part of the Grandview DECA chapter competed in different areas of business, marketing, entrepreneurship and finance. The group headed to Bellevue March 2nd through the 4th where each member took part in either different competitions or different workshops and academies where they were able to gain new knowledge on ways to become a better business professional.

Maritza Alvarez, Josue Arteaga, Marlene Castilleja, Elida Chavez, Elaina Gonzalez, Nara Gonzalez Nares, Monica Macias, Rosalina Martinez, Destanie Morales, Denisse Orozco, Alondra Perez-Arrezola, Joanna Perez-Arrezola, Lara Pizzarro Cuadrado, Alaura Raymond, Joshua Verduzco and Elias Villa represented Grandview DECA in the 3 day long trip.

Thursday afternoon the students got the chance to explore the famous Bellevue mall before heading to opening session. During opening session chapters from around the state were recognized for a variety of different aspect even including their growth in chapter membership. Grandview DECA’s very own Alondra Perez, took the stage for the last time for opening session with her DECA state officer team as they introduced different speakers and presented the Steven Anthony Rhone Memorial scholarship throughout the first part of the conference.

The first night consisted of pre presentation jitters and practicing role plays before their competitions on Friday. Seniors Destanie Morales and Josue Arteaga spent their first full day at a senior academy where they learned how to build credit and also took part in an etiquette luncheon. As the rest of the students took part in their own competition and role play each student gained new knowledge on tips to become a better business professional. After everyone completed the students headed downtown Seattle for a fun night on a yacht to interact with all of the Area 6 members who attended the conference. Area 6 includes Grandview, Richland, Southridge, Chiawana, Kamiakin, Pasco, Kennewick, and Hanford DECA.

Saturday morning all 3,000 students who attended the conference headed to closing session where awards were presented. Alondra Perez, Joanna Perez and Maritza Alvarez were presented the 3rd place award for the Chapter Awards Program project which earned them a spot for the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in April. Grandview DECA is now looking ahead taking eight students to ICDC which will be held in Anaheim, California.

Grandview DECA is proud of all their members and what they have accomplished this year. We are proud to see what our members will bring back to our community. Taking these students on this trip is a great experience allowing students to cherish these moments for a lifetime.
