Cheer Tryouts
It’s that time of year again, the cheer tryout season has come upon GHS. Not only is the team being combined this year, but the new squad will be expanded, with the possibility of having up to 18 girls during next year’s football season. Much of this change is due to the one big change that happened with the cheer program this year. The new coach, Sarah Moreno (who came in as the new coach during basketball season), with her, the GHS cheer squad will definitely be looking different these next coming years. Sarah Moreno has stepped down from her position as Prosser’s cheer coach to be able to advise Grandview’s program, and her plan is to create an established team that in the next few years will be competitive. She wants girls with dedication, athleticism, and talent, so to be able to find this she’s planning on changing the way tryouts have been held. To tryout you must fill out a packet answering questions, showing your GPA, and you have to have recommendations from 3 teachers, all of this will be affecting the score of a possible 1500 points. With GPA only being 40, a low GPA may not be an issue for some possible applicants, but with teacher recommendations being 300, a bad attitude in a class may take the toll on their score sheet. But with the actual tryout score being a possible 1000, talent is really going to be what leaves the mark on the judges table. Sarah is expecting a lot for the next coming years, she wants to take her program and truly change the way cheerleading is envisioned at GHS, and it all starts with her first full year as coach.
