CTE Day

At the start of CTE month four DECA officer and two FFA officers headed to Olympia to voice out why they believed that CTE activities should still be supported. The six members were very committed and ready at 4am to travel arriving at Olympia to arrive around 9am. CTE provides students of all ages with academic and technical skills as well as knowledge and training necessary to succeed in the future careers and to become lifelong learners. CTE classes in schools help connect what you're learning to the real world, as well as gaining key skills to help students get jobs they enjoy after they graduate. It’s a great way to explore career options and meet new people who work in them. CTE classes are also a great help to earn credits for college in high school. With all this the students were ready to talk about why CTE was important to them. Their day started of by having a meeting with State Representative Norm Johnson, the students talked to him about their stories with CTE classes and why they believed that they needed to keep supporting them as well as explaining how those classes helped them get where they wanted to be. Continuing on In the Morning, booths were set up at the Capitol Rotunda with different CTE Clubs with information for all the members who attended. Most of the booths explained how their clubs have helped them at school learn the techniques they will be using in the real world. There were tours going on, in which they talked about how everything was set up at the Capitol and why it's set up they way it is. Showing us around the Capitol, a walkthrough and feel of the Houses of Representatives, while still managing to meet the Legislators, and interact with them, asking questions and sharing stories as well. The only break the students had was around noon which is when they took the opportunity to fill their stomachs. After that students went to different buildings looking around enjoying the views and all the information that the buildings contained. After a long 14 hour trip where students were able to voice out and a very successful day, they also managed to learn a lot they even learned the importance of CTE classes and clubs at other schools.
