A Different Letter to Santa

It has become a Christmas norm to write letters to Santa explaining what they desire for the special day. For most children, the list is filled with the latest toys and gadgets. (Few boys ask for clothes although it is not too uncommon.) How would they react if they had to explain why they deserve what they asked for? Would kids ask for less? What reasons would they come up with?

Upon asking teachers at Grandview High School what they predicted their children would say, Mr. Charvet responded with, “because I am a good boy” and, “I help Mom”. It has also been confirmed that the younglings would not be saying this truthfully because neither of those claims describe them. Mr. Charvet even anticipated that one of his twin boys, William, would go to his room and cry because he knew that he does not deserve presents. Mr. Maiden speculated that his daughter would give many reasons about helping out around the house and stated that she would have rightfully earned every present that she received.

Another teacher here at Grandview High School. Mrs. Jensen, predicted her son would answer by saying, “because I have a good heart”, which is a common saying of his. Her daughter would be completely honest and say that she is good “most of the time”. A new teacher here, Mrs. Harvey thought that her eldest child would say “because I am a good boy”, and her youngest, at the age of 4, would say, “so I can play”.

Until it happens we can’t exactly say what the children would originate. Thankfully there will be a follow up article to humor us with the content the little trouble makers produce. Their responses will also help us see the purpose of Christmas through their eyes. Their thoughts will show how they view themselves, naughty or nice, and how they believe they contribute to society.
