Every high school basketball player has a goal whether it's to win a state title, district title, be apart of the 1000 points club or even to be part of their high school varsity team. Junior, Gunner Chronis accomplished one goal this season, only three games into the season Chronis scored his 1000 points of his high school career. Making 1000 points is a big deal as a high school basketball player not many individuals get to reach that goal giving the opportunity to be part of the 1000 point club.
His freshman year Chronis started off being a starter on the boys varsity basketball team where day in and day out he would put in countless hours into a gym putting up shots improving his game. Having trouble his freshman year, Chronis helped his team each game racking up the most possible shots he could hit. As his first high school basketball team was finished he knew that his sophomore year was going to be better having a 6-14 record averaging 28 points with a 8 rebounds a night Chronis game improved tremendously.
As his junior year season started off there are many thoughts going through the player's head including how will the season turn out or even what’s to look forward too. Friday, December 9th the Grandview Greyhounds took on the Selah Vikings for the third game of the season being a game that brings in a large crowd not only because the event was held at home but also because the community loves to watch Greyhound Basketball. Throughout the entire game the intensity was in the air, as the crowd rooting on their team play by play having hope for the Greyhounds to pull through with a win. No one imagined that Friday night would be a big night for guard Gunner Chronis. Playing another amazing game having 30 points Chronis continued to impress the crowd. In the third quarter of the game Chronis hit his 1000 points. The Greyhounds fell short that night losing to the Selah Vikings 70-73.
People in Grandview’s community know who Chronis is not only because of his outstanding athleticism but also because he stands 6 feet and 4 inches tall, it’s really hard for him to go unnoticed. Chronis always knew he’d hit his 1000 points saying “I figured eventually this year I would reach it I just wasn't sure when.” Having the chance to make history Chronis intentionally was just trying to an achievement in his family. “It’s a good feeling, my cousin AJ Valencia scored his 1000 points here in Grandview so I was trying to follow up.”
Having great success in his still young career Chronis has set goals not only for himself but his team as well reporting, “I expect us to grow as a team and get better everyday.” Meanwhile Chronis hopes to continue his basketball career after high school going into college on a full ride scholarship to play basketball. The Greyhounds will host Ellensburg on Friday, December 16th and travel to Othello on Saturday.
