Pray For Chapecoense

Late Monday November 28th, a tragedy occurred that has broken so many people's hearts around the world. A plane (Lamia 2933) crashed on its way to Medellin, Colombia from Bolivia Viru Viru Airport carrying 77 people with that included the Brazilian Chapecoense Soccer Team. The plane departed at 6:18am, at around 10pm it declared an emergency. The accident happened in a area called “Cerro el Gordo” near Medellin. Authorities have said that 71 people died in this crash in which 6 of them survived. The Chapecoense team was scheduled to play on November 30th against the Colombian Club Atletico Nacional. This match would have been the first game of the South American Cup Finals.

With all this we send out prayers to the victims and their families, we know this isn't an easy time for the families. Families, fans, and even the own Chapecoense squad had a dream in mind, that dream has now ended. One of the players who died in the crash found out just a week ago that he was going to be a father. Goalkeeper Marcos Danilo Padilha, who was 31 years old was known as an outstanding player of the team survived the crash and made it to the hospital. Minutes after he arrived at the hospital they declared his death.

People gathered in moments of silence to show their support. Real Madrid Coach, Zinedine Zidane, sent out his and his clubs support to the families, the victims, and their fans. A team with many promises, ended in one minute. This team had been a 43 year old team. Back in Brazil club supporters page changed its bright green logo to black in recognition of its darkest day. Three players survived the crash, Jackson Ragnar Follmann, Alan Ruschel, and Helio Hermito Zampier Neto. Doctors in Medellin amputated Follmann’s right leg and he is currently in the hospital under intensive care unit. Neto is under observation following multiple surgeries and Ruschel is in the Intensive care unit. Gelson Meriso, a state legislator for Santa Caterina and a big fan of the Brazilian team was supposed to get on the plane to travel with the team but due to work obligations he couldn't travel. Journalist Ivan Carlos Agnoletto gave up his seat to his colleague Gelson Galliotto who had always dreamed of covering a huge game. When Agnoletto told Galliotto he could go cover the game, Galliotto couldn't believe his dream was about to come true. Agnoletto didn't know about the crash until people started calling his wife giving her their condolences for her loss because they thought Agnoletto had been in the plane crash and died. Mayor of Chapeco, Luciano Buligon, and president of the clubs board Plinio David De Nes Filho, were on the passenger list as well but they missed the flight due to attending a meeting in Sao Paulo.

Prayers go out to the victims and families, the people who died will never be forgotten they will always be remembered. #PrayForChapeco
