Lady Hound Basketball

When playing a sport there is many perspectives for example the players, coaches, and even for the spectators. It's the same thing as with how freshman feels versus how a senior might feel. Vanessa Caballero and Natasha Jones are seniors at GHS part of the Grandview girls varsity basketball team, they are both feeling good about their last season playing basketball at GHS, Caballero feels very sad because it’s her last year and she has played basketball ever since she was 5 years old. Every athlete has their own pregame ritual and Caballero is no different, before every game she likes listening to music it gets her pumped up, another thing that gets her very pumped up is when coaches get mad at her, this year she thinks it might be different because they have new players, and if they get used to the game they’ll know what it’s like. Jones feeling is a tad bit different about this season saying “We have to play one game at a time in order to succeed.” She feels like if this season is going to be different because their mentality is in a better path and they are more focused, she always tries to give 100% all the time, since it’s the beginning of the season it hasn’t really hit her that it’s her last season ever playing at GHS but towards the end she feels like it will really affect her. Jones is very thankful for Bunker, for being the best coach. Sophomores Michelle Ruiz and Karina Fajardo feel very good and excited for this season this is their second year playing and attending at GHS, Karina is now in varsity and to her it doesn’t really matter what team she’s on as long as she does her job and never letting her team down. She feels like things will be different, the energy is so much more different, positivity and that they are not just growing individually but as a team (working together as one). She wouldn’t want to change anything as a team because she knows they are a great team and they will do good things. Ruiz thinks this season is going to be a good one, she just has to work hard, she feels pretty nervous before every game. She feels like she could change the way she communicates with her team and their attitudes. The varsity girls basketball teams started off the season great with their win against Pullman 60-43. They travel to Ephrata on Saturday for the first league game of the season.
