From the new, to the old some all wrestlers are excited and some what nervous for what’s to come this wrestling season. Freshmen Daniela Tello is coming in under the wing of older sister Maria Reyes who last year placed 4th at the 2015 2A state tournament. Tello’s biggest goal this year is live up to the Grandview girls wrestling name. In previous years the Grandview High School girl’s wrestling team is known to accomplish big things so as a freshman coming in there's a lot to learn and a lot to live up to. This season Tello’s mindset is “If it was easy everyone would do it.” Being a newbie out on the mat expectations are high, Tello hopes to make it past districts at least to regionals for her freshman year being part of the girls wrestling team.
Meanwhile returning male wrestlers Rigo Guerrero and Adrian Benitez have a similar goal set this season. Rigo Guerrero is going into his final season wrestling as a senior being excited for a number of different of reasons but mainly exciting because coach Romi has new work outs and new routines plans including new tournaments for the team. Guerrero is expecting to go big this season making it a memorable one, expecting for the team to go far Guerrero states, “We have a lot of good wrestlers as a team we should go to state.” Having high hope for his team Guerrero every day mindset is “State. Senior year. Last time on the mat.”
