Meeting the New Coaching Staff

New season, new team, new coaches. This 2016-2017 basketball season came by bringing some new faces onto the court. These new faces are meant to encourage and make each player better. Having a new head coach for the boys team and two new coaches for the girls team. Although each of the new coaches are already known around Grandview High School for academic reasons being on the court is a new challenge. Meet the coaches;
Glenn Braman
The former boy's varsity head coach for the Grandview High School coached 3 years then resigned to spend time with his family but then later in the summer got to help coach the girls varsity team and decided to sign for the D- Team coach position in the fall. We asked Braman how does it feel to move from a head coach for the varsity boys to a D- team girls coach, he replied with “good move for me and my family, with the time commitment being the boys head coach really froze up time to be with my boys. It's a challenge for me and i'm looking forward to it, since I've never coached for girls basketball.” We also asked him, what are you expecting as a coach for this season, Braman said “I'm going to learn a lot because I see a difference between girls and boys, I want to help kids improve their skills and understanding of basketball. But I think the varsity girls will have a successful journey through the season and will wine up in playoff and have a chance to go to the Sundome.” Coach Braman loves the game of basketball but we asked if he thinks it will be different this season with the girls, and he replied with “ From what i see helping in the summer, girls and boys are different in the game. It will be different for me not having to be head coach but it will be a good experience helping bunker and being apart of a fun team and coaching staff.” Braman said that he wants to be apart of something great, the league with the girls program will achieve, and he wants to be apart of making state, he had 9 years of coaching and wants to go to state and he thinks the girls varsity will make it. Braman is very excited for this season!
Rob Monahan
Second year Grandview High School teacher, Rob Monahan came from Pomeroy, Washington where he has coaching experience for girls basketball for 10 years, 10 years girls volleyball with 7 years of softball. He made the switch in 2015 where began teaching as an english teacher at Grandview High School. He was given the opportunity to coach the c-team girls basketball. Monahan is excited for this season to start. We asked him what are you expecting as a coach for this season and he said “Really hard to know, have not seen how the girls play, but with us coaching we should have a good growth.
Frankie Medina
The former JV coach for the Grandview boys basketball, first time coaching as a head coach and he is very excited! We asked him how he felt about being the new head coach and he said “ It's exciting, It's also my first year as a varsity head coach, i have a lot of mix emotions”. Coach Medina is expecting for the team to come out and compete every night, expecting them to play together as a team, play hard and hopefully get a lot of wins this year. We also asked him, What made you want to take the head coaching job, His response was “ Because of the love of basketball program, i payed for the greyhounds in Highschool and was able to experience some of the best times playing here so i want to be able to do the same things for the players of today”.
Frankie also said that “this year the boys will play more of a up tempo game with out of full court pressure and defense that will hopefully give the hounds opportunities to give them their speed and get a lot of baskets”. Frankie believes that the boys will give it their all this season, he thinks they are more experienced, and he has a great group of seniors that will become leaders for the varsity team.
