Benitez to State

Grandview High School proudly presents; Adrian Benitez, as the only fall athlete to go on the road to compete on the state level for cross country. Benitez is a junior at GHS, being a three sport student athlete he manages his time to do well in the classroom maintaining a 3.5 GPA and still manages to perform fairly well while he competes in this races for cross country.

From the start of his freshman year Benitez was taken under of the wing of Carlos Granados who recently graduated in 2016 Grandview High School. Granados and Benitez both encouraged each other to do better during each race whether it was during cross country in the fall or track in the spring. Granados played a major role in Benitez’s first two years of high school challenging him to be better making him out to be the individual he is today.

This is the first time in his high school experience Benitez has made it to state for a sport. The biggest thing he looks forward to while competing this weekend he says is, “running against the best people in the state”. Although being his first time competing at the state level his biggest obstacle he is going to face is not falling or tripping while competing. In previous meets he has slipped do to weather conditions that caused the course to become wet and slippery. Despite the fact he never imagined himself making it to state his major focus was running and improving his speed throughout the season.

From all the hard work and dedication Benitez was recognized his sophomore year for the CWAC 2nd team all league. Benitez states, “At the start of the season I didn't know what to expect, I want to give a shout out to Carlos Granados, I wouldn't be where I am today without him. Carlos was my motivation, I wanted to be better than him because he was like my role model. Overall i'm very proud of the outcomes.”

Best of luck to Adrian Benitez this weekend repping not only GHS but also the city of Grandview. The 2016 state cross country meet will take place Saturday, November 5th in Pasco.
